The more I am involved in fellowship & ministry with others, the more revelation I receive about the power contained in words spoken to us, about us & over us. I have known so many individuals, myself included, who have been held captive by words spoken through others. Words spoken over us as children have the power to keep us in captivity our entire adult lives if we don’t walk in a revelation of the freedom Christ purchased on our behalf. Words spoken to/about us as adults have the power to hold us captive from ever walking out our God-given destinies in this life.

We cannot control the words others speak to/over/about us, but we can control whether or not we choose to receive or be defined by those words. We can also control the words we speak to/over/about others. If we are truly seeking first the Kingdom of Heaven & His righteousness, if we are truly in Christ, we will choose to be defined by how our Heavenly Father sees us through the shed blood of His Son & by His Word alone. If we are truly living a lifestyle of worship in Spirit & in Truth, we will choose to release only those words that bless those who persecute us; words that bless the people in our atmospheres on a daily basis.

This is a huge revelation that must be taught to this next generation, & requires the current generation of those who call themselves ‘Christians’ to walk in both revelation & cooperation with the Holy Spirit, being transformed in Christ-centered Kingdom identities by His blood, His Spirit & His Word (carrying His nature) with vocabularies led by His Spirit & grounded in His Word.

I incorporate Hebrews 4:12 when ministering to those held in captivity to the words of others: ‘God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey’ (The Message). I teach them to speak & engage His Word as a sword, verbally & physically severing the power of the words, much like cutting one’s self free from a sticky spider web in the spirit realm. Depending on one’s circumstances (home, school or work environment, for example), this may have to be done on a daily basis. I also teach them to use His Word as a sword & sever any words they have released through their lips that would hold others in captivity (applying the same analogy as above). We apply the Blood of Christ to completely cover/wash clean the specific individuals/words/circumstances. We then walk through the process of blessing the individuals physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, financially, & other blessings that come to mind. John 8:36, “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (NAS).

I encourage personalizing & speaking specific Christ-centered identity passages from the Word on a daily basis (Ephesians 4:23-24, ‘and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.’ NAS), focusing on who the Word of God says we are, rather than how anyone else, including ourselves, defines us. This is critically important for parents in praying daily over their individual children, especially when involved in public schools & various other peer-oriented activities, &/or subjected to media & music continuously bombarding them with identity definitions & spoken words contrary to the Word of God.

I will be writing more on the power of positive & negative frequencies contained in words as we move forward in this season.
