We have entered in to a strategic time in the history of our nation, and an appointed time for the will of Heaven to manifest on Earth in the Body of Christ. Creator God of the Old Testament has always been about the generations: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The Son of God and the New Testament have always been about making disciples (not converts) and sheep nations: those who hear His voice and are obedient to Holy Spirit leading in being His vessels of manifesting and advancing the Kingdom of Heaven on the Earth. The Kingdom of Heaven is about the nature and attributes of Christ, i.e. His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, the glory of the Lord, the gifts of the Spirit, etc. flowing through earthly vessels who are one with Him as He is one with the Father. Signs and wonders that destroy the works of the kingdom of darkness, i.e. Satan and his demonic kingdom (sickness, disease, poverty, abuse, destruction, etc.), are to follow those who walk in Kingdom identity and obedience.

Somewhere between religious ideology, political correctness, and entertainment, the church is missing the mark with regard to the generations, beginning with the individual and identity. The Body of Christ must make the shift in the season we have NOW entered in to, particularly with our children and youth. The content of how we are “training up our children in the way they should go so that when they are old they will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6) must make a radical shift if we are going to BE the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth preparing the generations for Christ’s eternal rule and reign.

What does that mean exactly? Aside from the original Creation story and mandate in Genesis 1:28 (“Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.”), we have got to shift our teaching focus of the Scriptures and stories for our children and youth to New Covenant truths: the identity that Christ purchased through His death and resurrection on behalf of the Kingdom being at hand. The entire purpose of the Old Testament leads to Christ. Our children and youth need to know the Creation story and the power of the Word. They need to know Heaven’s original plan for creating and bringing man into the picture. They also need to know the first Adam blew it for all of us, but most importantly, that the second Adam, Christ Himself, restored it all again (Genesis 1:28) for anyone who would choose Him. From there, the focus must shift to New Testament, New Testament, and New Testament for this up and coming generation, and the shift must be done according to the ways in which children and youth learn, most importantly being experiential encounters with the Word and the Spirit.

We are at a critical juncture as a society and as the Body of Christ because we have not focused enough on teaching the generations, i.e. the children and youth, New Testament truths with Holy Spirit encounters. Why do I add Holy Spirit encounters you might ask? Because the truths of Scripture are intimately revealed to each individual through relevant experiences; through encountering Holy Spirit’s presence. This entire journey is about an intimate, personal relationship with a living God, a living Word, and a living Spirit. It is not simply another academic subject to be taught.

The kingdom of darkness totally gets this. Satan is not stupid. He’s had thousands of years to practice his deception and schemes. He is using everything from religion to political correctness to our preschool-through-college education system to sports and entertainment in order to capture the generations in a ‘false self’ reality that many will spend the majority of their adult lives trying to figure out or ‘get over.’ There are few sectors in society that are not telling our children and youth who they are supposed to be, how they are supposed to think and act, how they are supposed to look, what they are supposed to do, etc.. Voices are screaming loudly at them from every direction luring them to attach their identity to the latest and greatest thing. Additionally, many are covertly taught they have no value if they don’t find themselves attached to and successful at whatever that latest and greatest thing is. I’ve been in the ‘church’ my entire life. In a number of ways, it doesn’t look a whole lot different than the world. How do we teach the generations to be in the world but not of it?

When we, the Body of Christ, have the Truth Himself indwelling our very being, awakened to and living from our true self, i.e. Christ IN us, our hope of glory, and ALL that He IS to us through His Word and by His Spirit because of the price He paid to demonstrate our Heavenly Father’s love to us, why would we choose to spend time on anything but New Testament truths that equip the generations in their true identity as a chosen generation and a royal priesthood seated in Heavenly places? We have got to shift the teaching of the generations to sonship, because if we don’t, the enemy is going to relentlessly make every effort through every means available to enslave the generations with a ‘false self,’ having no clue as to who their ‘true self’ in Christ is, wholeheartedly embracing an ‘orphan spirit’ that belongs to nothing and to no one, chasing from one thing to the next, manipulating, controlling, and spending much of their adult life living through or trying to get over who they think they are with the broken lens through which they view their life. Humanism and religion both contribute. To clarify: Christianity is not a religion. It is a living, personal, and intimate relationship with a living, personal and intimately loving Heavenly Father who has made a way through Christ for each of us to be adopted into His family as His sons and daughters. Unless our children and youth encounter (experiential revelation) Him as such it does nothing to help them understand who they are, what they are called and gifted to do, or how they are to be in relationship with others.

We live in the New Covenant. We have a Heavenly Father who is watching over all mankind in grace and love, as opposed to judgment, simply because Christ took on the judgment for the sins of all mankind (John 3:17), unless they refuse to receive His gift and until the day of the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelations 20:11-15). There’s much truth to be taught in the pages of the New Testament that the generations on the Earth today and the nations themselves are needing to have a revelation of in order to walk out our Earthly assignments at this appointed time.

Identity in Christ. What does that mean exactly for each and every child? If we, the Body of Christ, don’t teach the relevancy and significance of Christ-centered Truths in the formative years of every child in every family, who’s going to? The fruit of spending time teaching the generations good stories and entertaining them is rather obvious. The desire to believe in something of significance dwells within every individual. Every individual is born with an innate need to know who they are and what purpose they hold. Every individual is created with an intimacy need that our Heavenly Father alone can fill. We have come to a significant juncture, Church. Are we going to continue down the same path we have been on, having less and less impact on our culture and the nations, or are we going to answer the heart cry of a generation? Who am I? Why am I here? If we don’t answer those basic questions for all who ask, and even before they begin asking in the early formative years, through revelations of New Testament Truths, then the culture does it for us, and we end up where we are currently: marriage being redefined, recreational marijuana being legalized, the continued breakdown of families, abortion destroys another generation, behavioral disorders increase, as do anger and violence, etc.. Need I say more?

As darkness continues to increase, doesn’t Scripture exhort us to arise with His Light and His glory in the midst of the darkness (Isaiah 60; Matthew 5:14-16)? We need a reformation. Reformation begins with the Ecclesia sowing Truth into the individual from infancy on. The words we speak to, over, and about our children contain eternal life-giving power. (They also contain the power of death if we do not measure them carefully – Proverbs 18:21, James 3). We, His disciples, know the Truth. Knowing Him sets us free to be who we have been created to be and to do what we have been created and called to do. When we really know who we are in Christ, i.e. our ‘true self,’ we are empowered by Holy Spirit to bear fruit that aligns with the Word. We are called to steward our children and youth in a revelation of His truths.

I challenge the Body of Christ to begin delving into and discovering the infinite treasure chest of identity in Christ and New Testament Truths as their primary focus for equipping nursery, preschool, elementary, and junior/senior high aged children and youth in the NOW! I also challenge you to provide regular opportunities to encounter His presence, both at home and as the Body gathers corporately. This is truly the only way to see reformation and transformation begin to manifest at a time in His Story that has been precisely appointed!
