We have entered in to a strategic time in the history of our nation, and an appointed time for the will of Heaven to manifest on Earth in the Body of Christ. Creator God of the Old Testament, our Heavenly Father, has always been about the generations: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His original mandate in Genesis 1:28 and His Son/the Good News/the New Testament have always been about making disciples (not converts) of nations (Matthew 28:19-20): those who hear His voice and are obedient to Holy Spirit leading in being His vessels of manifesting and advancing the Kingdom of Heaven on the Earth. The Church’s commission is to come along side the family and support our number one calling: “well done good and faithful servants on stewarding your marriages, on stewarding your children, and on stewarding the things you have been given for the Kingdom.” The Kingdom being at hand is about the nature and attributes of Christ, i.e. His love, joy, peace, righteousness, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, the glory of the Lord, the gifts of the Spirit, etc. flowing through earthly vessels who are one with Him as He is one with the Father. Signs and wonders that destroy the works of the kingdom of darkness, i.e. Satan and his demonic kingdom (dis-ease: sickness, poverty, abuse, lack, destruction, etc.), are to follow those who walk in Kingdom identity and obedience.

Somewhere between religious ideology, political correctness, and entertainment, families are missing the mark with regard to the generations, i.e. their children. Families needs to awaken to raising their children in identity, giftings, and Kingdom purpose in Christ. If families are not focusing on their number one calling and their children as their legacies, then those with very different anti-Christ agendas will gladly step in and raise our children in their identity, complete with humanistic and New Age ideologies. As the family goes, so goes the nation. The Body of Christ must make the shift in the season we have NOW entered in to, particularly with our children and youth; to steward generationally once again. Our children must know what they believe and why they believe it. Those beliefs should align with Scripture rather than the secular humanism and political correctness of our current educational system. The content of how we are “training up our children in the way they should go so that when they are old they will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6) must make a radical shift if we are going to BE the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth preparing the generations for Christ’s eternal rule and reign.

What does that mean exactly? Aside from the original Creation story and mandate in Genesis 1:28 (“Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.”), we have got to shift our teaching focus of the Scriptures and stories for our children and youth to New Covenant truths: the identity that Christ purchased through His death and resurrection on behalf of the Kingdom being at hand. The entire purpose of the Old Testament leads to Christ. Our children and youth need to know the Creation story and the power of the Word. They need to know Heaven’s original plan for creating and bringing man into the picture. It has always been about being fruitful, multiplying, and bringing all of Creation under the rule and reign of our King and Lord. Because He is the embodiment of goodness and His ways being higher than our ways, this will always be accomplished through the manifestation of His love flowing through us to our natural material realm. The first Adam blew it for all of us, but the second Adam, Christ Himself, restored it all again (Genesis 1:28) for anyone who would choose Him. The focus must shift to New Testament truths for this up and coming generation, and the shift must be done according to the ways in which children and youth learn, most importantly being experiential encounters with the Word and Holy Spirit. It must shift to becoming vessels of releasing His love and His Light into the darkness, i.e. all the goodness of Heaven into the Earth (Isaiah 60).

We are at a critical juncture as a society and as the Body of Christ because we have not focused enough on teaching the generations, i.e. the children and youth, New Testament truths with Holy Spirit encounters. Why do I add Holy Spirit encounters you might ask? Because the truths of Scripture are intimately revealed to each individual through relevant experiences; through encountering Holy Spirit’s presence. This entire journey is about an intimate, personal relationship with a living God, a living Word, and a living Spirit. It is not simply another academic subject to be taught. When Holy Spirit puts His finger on a truth, it suddenly becomes revelation, understanding, and identity.

I witnessed this truth recently while teaching on the contents of this article. Our youngest daughter was in attendance at this particular gathering. She has been raised in these truths, ever since we adopted her at the age of eight. She has heard the testimonies of our journey and the contents of my teaching multiple times. However, on this particular day, Holy Spirit’s presence was very tangibly in our midst. He profoundly put His finger on what she was ‘hearing’ in such a powerful way, that she was literally overcome with emotion. After requesting a few tissues, she came forward and testified as to what was transpiring. She had heard my teaching and our stories repeatedly throughout her life, but in that Holy Spirit moment, she encountered revelation, truth, understanding, and thankfulness over the journey like never before. Holy Spirit kept showing her throughout the teaching how things could have turned out so differently for her, yet she saw her Heavenly Father’s hand on her journey, and was simply and thankfully overwhelmed by His goodness. She came to an entirely new understanding of her mom and dad literally laying aside their own plans for this life, in order to obediently follow after their Heavenly Father’s best plans. She saw that our entire life’s journey as her parents had been on behalf of His very best plans for six children and six generational lines. It was truly a powerful encounter for everyone that she will eternally remember. She also undeniably knows to Whom she belongs, her identity, her giftings, and her Kingdom purpose.

The kingdom of darkness also totally gets this. Satan is not stupid. He’s had thousands of years to practice his deception and schemes. He is using everything from religion to political correctness to our preschool-through-college education system to sports and entertainment in order to capture the generations in a ‘false self’ reality that many will spend the majority of their adult lives trying to figure out or ‘get over.’ There are few sectors in society that are not telling our children and youth who they are supposed to be, how they are supposed to think and act, how they are supposed to look, what they are supposed to do, etc.. Voices are screaming loudly at them from every direction luring them to attach their identity to the latest and greatest thing. Additionally, many are covertly taught they have no value if they don’t find themselves attached to and successful at whatever that latest and greatest thing is. I’ve been in the ‘church’ my entire life. In a number of ways, it doesn’t look a whole lot different than the world. How do we teach the generations to be in the world but not of it?

When we, the Body of Christ, have the Truth Himself indwelling our very being, awakened to and living from our true self, i.e. Christ IN us, our hope of glory, and ALL that He IS to us through His Word and by His Spirit because of the price He paid to demonstrate our Heavenly Father’s love to us, why would we choose to spend time on anything but New Testament truths that equip the generations in their true identity as a chosen generation and a royal priesthood seated in Heavenly places? We have got to shift the teaching of the generations to sonship, because if we don’t, the enemy is going to relentlessly make every effort through every means available to enslave the generations with a ‘false self,’ having no clue as to who their ‘true self’ in Christ is, wholeheartedly embracing an ‘orphan spirit’ that belongs to nothing and to no one, chasing from one thing to the next, manipulating, controlling, and spending much of their adult life living through or trying to get over who they think they are with the broken lens through which they view their life. Humanism and religion both contribute. To clarify: Christianity is not a religion. It is a living, personal, and intimate relationship with a living, personal and intimately loving Heavenly Father who has made a way through Christ for each of us to be adopted into His family as His sons and daughters. Unless our children and youth encounter (experiential revelation) Him as such it does nothing to help them understand who they are, what they are called and gifted to do, or how they are to be in relationship with others.

We live in the New Covenant. We have a Heavenly Father who is watching over all mankind in grace and love, as opposed to judgment, simply because Christ took on the judgment for the sins of all mankind (John 3:17), unless they refuse to receive His gift and until the day of the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelations 20:11-15). There’s much truth to be taught in the pages of the New Testament that the generations on the Earth today and the nations themselves are needing to have a revelation of in order to walk out our Earthly assignments at this appointed time.

Identity in Christ. What does that mean exactly for each and every child? If we, the Body of Christ, don’t teach the relevancy and significance of Christ-centered Truths in the formative years of every child in every family, who’s going to? The fruit of spending time teaching the generations good stories and entertaining them is rather obvious. The desire to believe in something of significance dwells within every individual. Every individual is born with an innate need to know who they are and what purpose they hold. Every individual is created with an intimacy need that our Heavenly Father alone can fill. We have come to a significant juncture, Church. Are we going to continue down the same path we have been on, having less and less impact on our culture and the nations, or are we going to answer the heart cry of a generation? Who am I? Why am I here? If we don’t answer those basic questions for all who ask, and even before they begin asking in the early formative years, through revelations of New Testament Truths, then the culture does it for us, and we end up where we are currently: marriage being redefined, recreational marijuana being legalized, the continued breakdown of families, abortion destroys another generation cutting off the generational blessings, behavioral disorders increase, as do anger and violence, etc.. Need I say more? Note: generational blessings always come from our Heavenly Father and are eternally good.

As darkness continues to increase, doesn’t Scripture exhort us to arise with His Light and His glory in the midst of the darkness (Isaiah 60; Matthew 5:14-16)? We need restoration. We need a reformation. Reformation begins with the Ecclesia sowing Truth into the individual from infancy on. The words we speak to, over, and about our children contain eternal life-giving power. (They also contain the power of death if we do not measure them carefully – Proverbs 18:21, James 3). We, His disciples, know the Truth. Knowing Him sets us free to be who we have been created to be and to do what we have been created and called to do. When we really know who we are in Christ, i.e. our ‘true self,’ we are empowered by Holy Spirit to bear fruit that aligns with the Word. We are called to steward our children and youth in a revelation of His truths.

I challenge the Body of Christ to begin delving into and discovering the infinite treasure chest of identity in Christ and New Testament Truths as their primary focus for equipping nursery, preschool, elementary, and junior/senior high aged children and youth in the NOW! I also challenge you to provide regular opportunities to encounter His presence, beginning in our homes, as well as when the Body gathers corporately. This is truly the only way to see restoration, reformation, and transformation begin to manifest at a time in His Story that has been precisely appointed!

Regardless of the paths we have been on, there is never shame or condemnation for those who are in Christ, it is never too late, and there is nothing impossible for our Father. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18-19). If our hearts are toward Him, we can begin right where we are. There’s a nation of broken, hurting people waiting for spiritual, natural, and adoptive mothers and fathers to come along side them, love them, and empower them to hear Holy Spirit say, “This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21). It’s NOW time to steward the generations!

I recommend reading Walk in Generational Blessings by Dr. Joseph Mattera, as well as Switch On Your Brain: The Key to Peak Happiness, Thinking, and Health by Dr. Carolyn Leaf. Both are tremendous resources in the practicality of raising our families in the truths of the Word.
